A soup kitchen, a pub, and thirteen years empty.
The building was used by the Mitford sisters as a soup kitchen during the war. It became a pub called The Windmill in 1983, and then in 2013 the owner died and it sat abandoned for over a decade.
It was bought in 2024 for a reported less than a million pounds, renovated on camera for Series Four, and reopened on the twenty-third of August that year to hundreds of people queuing down the lane.
The name came from discovering what the surrounding land had historically been used for. We will leave that there.
