Why we are not going to become a grocer.
There is an obvious next step from a box subscription, which is to broaden it into general groceries. We are not going to take it, and the reason has a name: FarmDrop.
FarmDrop was an ethical online grocer with an excellent mission and a decade of trying. It racked up losses of more than fifty million pounds and ceased trading in December 2021, owing up to four hundred and fifty suppliers. Grocery margins plus cold-chain logistics do not work at small scale, and they have killed better-funded operations than this one.
So the boxes stay curated, high-margin and brand-led. Ambient goods, drinks and one seasonal fresh element at most. That is a deliberate ceiling and we would rather explain it than hit it.

The boxes, questioned.
Three questions about a product whose whole point is not choosing.
No, and that is the product. The value of letting somebody else pack it is that they put in the thing you were never going to try.
Marginally, and not enough to be the reason. The reason is the one thing a month you would not have chosen.
Tell us once and it stops appearing. That is the only personalisation there is and it is deliberately the only one.
