Decoded

Six operations, one invariant rule.

Every one of the forty titles is a gerund. That single constraint is what makes the system read as authored rather than improvised, and it is what makes it extensible without dilution.

The grammar

The six operations.

OpMechanismExamples from the corpus
G1 — Denominal gerund Take a farm noun, verb it, add -ing. The word does not properly exist; that is the joke. Tractoring, Sheeping, Porking, Mushrooming, Pubbing, Landlording
G2 — Latent pun Use a real English word that happens to contain an agricultural literal. Both meanings fire at once. Harrowing, Cowering, Badgering, Reaping, Fluffing, Operating
G3 — Typographic intervention Brackets or hyphens surgically expose a word hidden inside another. The typography is the gag. Pan (dem) icking, Council-ing, Solo-ing
G4 — Homophone pairing Consecutive chapters that sound identical and mean opposite things. Council-ing (13) → Counselling (14)
G5 — Prefix negation Invert the expectation with un-. Unfarming
G6 — Register collision A blunt colloquialism dropped into an agricultural frame. Cottaging, Climaxing, Crawling, Splurging
The procedure

How to generate a new one.

Identify the verb, not the noun

What does this section actually do? Name the action.

Try G2 first, always

A latent pun is free — the word already exists and already carries both meanings. It is the best possible result.

If no G2 exists, try G1

Verb the noun. Tractoring. Pubbing. Landlording.

Use G3 only for a genuinely hidden word

Overused, the bracket becomes a tic rather than a joke.

Reserve G4 for deliberate pairs

Two tiers, two states, two campaign phases. It is too good to waste.

Restrain G6

It is where the show’s humour lives and where a commerce platform gets into trouble. Dial it down; let the wit come from precision.

A gift

The word they never used.

In forty chapters, across five series and six years, the programme has never once used the word "Farming".

It has used Unfarming. It has used Tractoring, Sheeping, Porking, Harvesting and Reaping. It has never used the obvious word — the one that describes the entire activity.

That absence is an asset. It is the single most valuable unclaimed word in the whole system, and it is sitting there deliberately.

The honest bit

Every one of the forty is a gerund. Not most of them, not nearly all — every single one. That kind of discipline is invisible when it works and unmistakable when it breaks, and it is the reason the system can be extended by somebody else without immediately falling apart.

See it applied.

Forty chapters, each with its operation identified.

Wondering

What people actually ask.

The two questions this page gets most, answered without a support ticket.

Chapter forty-one is this platform. The ledger carries on from there, and every number granted is logged permanently in Recording.

Because the production files do not reset either. Peepshow named theirs CF4_CH26_Pubbing. It is one continuous work, and we number it as one.

Snooping, briefly.

We use a small number of cookies to keep your basket upright and to work out which pages people actually read. We do not sell anything about you to anyone, because that would be a rotten way to behave.
