What a Recall Actually Costs
Two recalls, one over-fermentation and one undeclared allergen. Neither was hidden and both are on this website.

In 2023 a batch of cider over-fermented in the bottle and was recalled. Separately, Hawkstone Black and Spa Lager were recalled over undeclared gluten from wheat, reported through the Food Standards Agency.
The direct cost of a recall is the stock, the logistics and the refunds. The indirect cost is supposed to be the trust, and this is where the received wisdom turns out to be wrong: sales rose after the cider recall.
The allergen recall is a different and more serious category. Undeclared gluten is not a quality problem, it is a safety problem for somebody with coeliac disease, and it belongs on this page rather than in a press release nobody reads. Publishing it is the minimum, not the gesture.
