Document upload, identity and age checks, and a cross-reference against public registers. Not, as far as the published documents show, a site visit.
What is checked, and what is not.
Verified
- A public liability insurance certificate, uploaded before the listing goes live
- Gas Safety Certificate, where relevant
- Food hygiene rating, cross-checked against the Food Standards Agency
- Alcohol licence details, where relevant
- Animal exhibition licence details, where relevant
- Government-issued identification, facial age estimation, or Open Banking verification
- Cross-checks against Companies House and local authority licensing records
- An 18+ requirement for all account activity
Not found in the published documents
- Any evidence of physical site visits
- Any evidence of animal-welfare inspection
- Any DBS or safeguarding checks, despite animal encounters and family days being core categories
- Any firearms, hunting or fishing licence requirement, despite both being live categories
- Platform-provided host or guest liability insurance
- A published minimum cover value for the insurance it does require
Why we are publishing the gaps rather than the reassurance.
It would be easy, and much more comfortable, to write "every farm is verified" and stop there. That is what the platform says, and it is true as far as it goes.
But the things that are not checked matter to anybody deciding whether to take a child to meet an animal or a family to stay on a working farm. No site visits, no safeguarding checks, and no firearms licence requirement on a platform with a live hunting category are all things a reasonable person would want to know before booking.
None of that means the platform is unsafe. It means the published standard is a document-and-register standard rather than an inspection standard, and anybody using it should understand which of those they are relying on.

It does not. All liability sits with the farm, which is why the insurance certificate is a hard gate rather than a suggestion.
