Natural-language search

Describe the day you want, in your own words.

Scout is the platform’s natural-language search. Rather than filtering by category, date and radius, you tell it what you actually want and it finds farms that match.

The thinking

Why this is the right feature for this problem.

Marketplace filters assume you know what you are looking for. On a farm-experience platform you frequently do not — you know you have a free Saturday, two children and a general wish to be outdoors, and none of that maps onto a category dropdown.

"Switch on Scout and describe the day you want in your own words" solves an actual problem rather than demonstrating a technology. That distinction is rarer than it should be.

What people actually ask

The kind of thing it handles.

A day out with two small children

Which rules out most of the hunting listings and quite a lot of the workshops.

Something on a wet Sunday in November

Which is a genuinely hard search on any conventional filter.

Near enough to drive, far enough to feel away

A radius question phrased the way people actually think about it.

A present for somebody who likes cheese

Which is a gift search, not a location search.

Somewhere the dog can come

A constraint that cuts across every category.

A tasting, but not wine

Negative preferences, which filters handle badly and language handles well.

On the consumer side

Natural language

Describe it rather than filter it.

Location aware

Nearest farms, and a map view.

Date and group size

The conventional filters still exist.

Follow farms

And get a personalised feed.

The community side.

Herds — topic-based groups of verified farmers.

Wondering

What people actually ask.

The two questions this page gets most, answered without a support ticket.

Documents first — public liability, gas safety, food hygiene, alcohol and animal exhibition licences where they apply — then identity, then a cross-check against public registers. Without them a listing does not publish.

It does not. All liability sits with the farm, which is why the insurance certificate is a hard gate rather than a suggestion.

The estate list

First sight of every drop

The things that sell out do it in minutes. This is the only warning anyone gets.

Snooping, briefly.

We use a small number of cookies to keep your basket upright and to work out which pages people actually read. We do not sell anything about you to anyone, because that would be a rotten way to behave.
