This is the only kind of controlled-environment or intensive growing that makes sense here. Vertical farming, on the other hand, is a sector graveyard and we have no intention of going near it.

Not on foot, most of the year — it is a working farm with machinery in it. The cameras, the virtual walk and the footpaths are the honest alternatives.
