Referral

Ten pounds each. Yours lands when theirs sticks.

What you actually do to a friend. One link, ten pounds of credit each way, and a delay on your half that exists because the alternative is a scheme that pays out on orders that get returned.

£10 to them
£10 to you
£30 the minimum first order
10 a year, capped
Six steps

Exactly how the money moves.

You send one link

No code to remember, no code to mistype, and it works whether they open it on a phone or a laptop.

They get ten pounds off their first order

On anything over thirty pounds. It applies at the basket rather than being claimed afterwards.

Their order ships

Nothing has happened to your side yet.

Fourteen days pass

The statutory return window closes. This is the delay, and it is the whole reason the scheme is not gamed.

Your ten pounds appears

As credit, or as a thousand bushels if you set that preference. You are told either way.

Up to ten times a year

A hundred pounds is the annual ceiling. Past that it stops paying and says so plainly rather than silently.

Six rules

Why each rule is there.

RuleThe reasonThe honest reason
A thirty-pound minimum It has to cover the cost of the credit A ten-pound discount on an eleven-pound order is not a referral, it is a giveaway
Fourteen-day delay on the referrer The return window has to close Otherwise the scheme pays out on orders that come straight back
Ten a year A cap keeps it a referral rather than a job Anybody wanting more than a hundred pounds a year is running a business and should read Supplying
New customers only The point is acquisition Referring your own second email address is the oldest trick there is
One referral per household address Households, not people Four people at one address is four accounts and one delivery route
Manual review over three in a month Fraud checks Because there always have to be, and the alternative is a scheme that gets closed
The commercial argument

Why referral is the only channel worth pulling hard on.

Every other acquisition channel gets more expensive as it scales. Paid search gets bid up, social gets saturated, and the cost per customer rises exactly when you need it to fall.

Referral does the opposite. Each new customer arrives with a set cost — twenty pounds across both sides — and brings the possibility of more. On an estate where three million people already follow a farm shop on one platform alone, the acquisition cost is already close to zero and the only sensible thing to do is make the existing audience the channel.

The reason it is capped at ten anyway is that an uncapped referral scheme stops being a referral scheme somewhere around the fiftieth one, and starts being an affiliate programme with none of the disclosure obligations an affiliate programme has.

What you get

  • Ten pounds off their first order over £30
  • Ten pounds of credit to you, after fourteen days
  • Or a thousand bushels each, if you prefer those
  • One link, no codes, works anywhere
  • Told when it lands, and told when it does not
  • Up to ten a year

What you very much do not

  • Referring yourself, under any spelling of your name
  • Referring somebody at your own address
  • Anything on an order under thirty pounds
  • Stacking with another introductory offer
  • More than ten in a year
  • Any payout in actual money

Bushels have no cash value, and referral credit is not money either.

Both are account credit against future orders here. Neither can be withdrawn, transferred, sold or redeemed for cash, and this build takes no payment at all — every amount on this page is illustrative.

Wondering

Roping in, questioned.

Because the return window is fourteen days. Paying the referrer before it closes means paying out on orders that come straight back, which is how these schemes get abused and then withdrawn.

Nobody is chased for anything. Their discount stands, your credit does not arrive, and that is the end of it.

Yes. A gift bought by a new customer counts, and the recipient can then be referred separately by somebody else. It has happened.

Yes, specifically — under thirty pounds, same address, existing customer, or over the cap. A silent failure is how a scheme loses trust.

Several people, one present.

Eight people splitting a cask, and the awkward business of who chased whom.

Snooping, briefly.

We use a small number of cookies to keep your basket upright and to work out which pages people actually read. We do not sell anything about you to anyone, because that would be a rotten way to behave.
