One balance. Three tills. No expiry games.
Hoarding points, and an advertising hoarding. Bushels earned in the farm shop, at the brewery and at the pub, spent in any of the three, at one hundred bushels to the pound and nothing clever underneath it.
Your bushels.
Earn and burn shown together, because a scheme that hides the burn side is a scheme that does not expect you to use it.
0bushels
Four thousand one hundred and eighty bushels, which is forty-one pounds eighty. That is the whole exchange rate and there is not a second one hidden anywhere.
Eight hundred and twenty more and the brewery tour is free. That is about a month of ordinary spending, or forty-one days of walking through the shop door.
How it fills
- Every whole pound spent, anywhere on the estate1 bushel
- Checking in at the shop, the brewery or the pub20 a day
- A box that ships without being skipped25
- The Order of Hawkstone, converted at parity1 Rune = 1 bushel
- Mucking In and aboveEverything doubled
What it buys
- One hundred bushels£1 off, anywhere
- A pint at the garden bar450
- A jar of Bee Juice850
- A brewery tour place1,800
- Nothing age-restricted, ever, without a card checkAlways
Bushels have no cash value. They cannot be sold, exchanged for money, transferred between accounts or redeemed against anything age-restricted without a card check. This build takes no payment and the balance above is illustrative.
Why it is one balance and not three.
The Order of Hawkstone already does this properly for the brewery. Runes for every purchase, Runes for checking in at a Hawkstone location, spent against future orders. It is a good scheme with a good name and we are not replacing it.
What it cannot do is know that the person who bought a case of lager in March is the person who queued forty minutes for jam in April and booked a table in June. Three tills, three ledgers, three separate views of the same customer, and no one of them ever seeing more than a third of what that person actually spends here.
So Hoarding sits above all three. Runes convert into bushels at parity — one for one, because a conversion rate that is not one to one is a quiet devaluation dressed up as an upgrade — and the pub and the shop feed the same ledger.
- 1:1
- Runes to bushels
- 3
- tills feeding one ledger
- 0

The whole scheme, in one table.
Earning
- Rate
- One bushel per whole pound spent. Pence are rounded down, not up
- Check-in
- Twenty bushels, once a day, at any one of the three sites
- Doubling
- Mucking In, Ploughing On and Landlording earn at twice the rate
- On gift cards
- Earned when the card is spent, not when it is bought. Otherwise it is free money
- On alcohol
- Yes, at the same rate as everything else
Spending
- Rate
- One hundred bushels to the pound. There is no second rate and no tier bonus on burning
- Minimum
- None. You may spend four hundred bushels on four pounds off, in the shop, on a Tuesday
- On alcohol
- Yes, after a card check. Never without one
- Combining with a member discount
- Yes, both apply, discount first and bushels against the balance
- Refunds
- Bushels spent on a refunded order come back within twenty-four hours
The awkward bits
- Expiry
- Twenty-four months from the last time the account did anything at all
- Cash value
- None. Not now and not ever
- Transfer
- Not between accounts. It is a loyalty balance, not a currency
- Negative balances
- Impossible. A refund that would take you below zero takes you to zero
Every line of that table is on The Rules in longer form, including the parts that are not in our favour.
What the scheme is actually worth.
It is one per cent. Two if you pay for membership. That is not generous and we are not going to describe it as generous — it is roughly what a supermarket does, on a much smaller basket.
What happens when the tills go offline.
| Situation | What the till does | What you see |
|---|---|---|
| Network down at the shop | Queues the transaction locally and keeps trading | Balance updates when it reconnects, within 24 hours |
| Network down and you want to redeem | Allows it, up to 500 bushels, on the last known balance | The redemption stands even if it overdraws you |
| Two tills both offline | Both allow up to 500. It is possible to spend more than you have | We wear it. The balance floors at zero, never negative |
| The loyalty ledger itself is down | Tills keep trading. Nothing is refused for a loyalty reason | A note on your ledger saying the entry was late, and why |
The three pages underneath this one.
Hoarding, questioned.
The target is sixty seconds from the till to the wallet, measured at the ninety-fifth percentile. The guarantee is twenty-four hours, because the guarantee has to cover a shop with no signal.
They are still Runes, and they are also bushels. The conversion is one to one and it runs both ways, so nothing you earned in the Order has been quietly rebased.
No. A transferable loyalty balance is a currency, and issuing a currency involves a great deal more regulation than a farm shop wants.
After twenty-four months of the account doing nothing whatsoever. One purchase, one check-in or one login resets it, and we email you twice before it happens.
