The lambing camera makes obvious sense — three weeks in April of something genuinely dramatic. The harvest camera makes obvious sense. The hedge camera was put up because there was a spare camera.
It shows a hedge. For about eleven months of the year, absolutely nothing happens on it. Somebody watches it almost constantly.
The best explanation anybody has offered is that it is the opposite of everything else on the internet: it is not trying to hold your attention, it is not edited, it does not want anything from you, and it will still be there tomorrow doing the same amount of nothing. That turns out to be worth a great deal to a certain number of people, and we did not design it on purpose.
