Two Marketplaces at Once Is Genuinely Hard

A B2C experiences marketplace and a B2B trade marketplace, running simultaneously at a headcount of one to ten.

Only Farmers runs two marketplaces inside one product. On the consumer side, farm days out, stays and workshops. On the farmer side, equipment hire, livestock listings, supplier discovery and a jobs board.

These are different products. Different buyers, different seasonality, different liquidity dynamics, different trust requirements. Running both at once, at a headcount of one to ten, is an ambitious focus decision and it deserves to be named as the risk it is rather than listed as a feature.

The case for it is real: the same farmer is on both sides, and the B2B side gives them a reason to open the app in February when nobody is booking a farm walk. Seasonality is the great killer of agritourism platforms and a year-round B2B layer is a genuine answer to it. But two-sided marketplaces are hard, and two of them at once is two hard problems rather than one and a half.

Wondering

What people actually ask.

The two questions this page gets most, answered without a support ticket.

Enthusiastically. Bothering Us goes to a person, not a queue.

When there is something worth saying. A publishing calendar produces filler, and filler is how a journal dies.

The honest bit

Where a number here is estimated rather than published, the page says so. We would rather be dull than wrong.

Snooping, briefly.

We use a small number of cookies to keep your basket upright and to work out which pages people actually read. We do not sell anything about you to anyone, because that would be a rotten way to behave.
