Putting a camera on somebody else’s page.

Schools, parish websites and village halls can embed any camera here. Everybody else needs to ask first, and the answer is usually yes.

Through the lens

The rules, which are short.

A school, a parish council or a village hall can embed any camera on this estate without asking anybody. Take the embed code from the camera page, put it on your site, and that is the end of the process.

A commercial site should ask. Not because we want a fee — there is none — but because we want to know where a feed of our own yard is appearing, and because an embed sitting inside somebody else’s advertising is a different proposition from one on a parish noticeboard.

The one absolute rule is that the embed must carry the source. Not for search reasons. Because a picture of a farm without a farm attached to it is exactly how a still from this hedge ends up in a newspaper attributed to nobody.

  • Schools, parishes and village halls: embed freely, no permission needed
  • Commercial sites: ask first, and the answer is usually yes
  • Every embed carries the camera name and a link back
  • No embed may be modified, cropped, overlaid or re-labelled

The conditions

Modification
Not permittedNo cropping, overlay, re-labelling or filtering.
Commercial use
Ask firstThere is no fee. We only want to know where it is.
Withdrawal
We can switch one offIt has happened once, and the reason was obvious.

This is a demonstration build, so the embed code on the camera pages renders a placeholder rather than a live stream.

Four steps

How to do it.

Pick the camera

Any of the ten. The hedgerow is the safest choice for a page that has to look the same all year.

Copy the line from the camera page

One iframe, responsive, no configuration to get wrong.

Leave the attribution alone

It is part of the embed rather than something you have to add.

Tell us, if you are commercial

One email. We have never said no, but we have asked people to move an embed away from an advert.

Suggested

Two cameras that embed well.

Both look the same all year, neither has people in shot, and neither goes out of season.

On your own page

Embedding, in short.

One line

A responsive iframe, and nothing to configure.

No cookies

The embed sets nothing, anywhere, ever.

Free for schools

And parishes, and village halls, without asking.

Attribution required

It is built in. Removing it is the one thing that gets a feed pulled.

Talk to a person about it.

Bothering Us goes to somebody who can actually answer, which for a commercial embed is the fastest route.

Snooping, briefly.

We use a small number of cookies to keep your basket upright and to work out which pages people actually read. We do not sell anything about you to anyone, because that would be a rotten way to behave.
