Three weeks that justify the whole thing

The Lambing Shed.

The best three weeks on this website, and the only camera that sits permanently outside every paywall. Ewes, lambs, a heat lamp and a man who has not slept since Tuesday.

Three weeks that justify the whole thing

What it is actually pointed at.

It runs from the middle of March to the end of April, covering the four main pens and the creep at the back. In a busy week it is the most-watched thing the estate publishes, by a margin that embarrasses everything else on here.

We put it outside Belonging on purpose. Charging for lambing would be the single cheapest thing this platform could do and the single worst, so it is free at three in the morning to anybody with a browser, member or not.

It is also the camera that most often shows something difficult. Lambing does not always go well and we do not cut away when it does not. If you would rather not see that, the hedgerow camera is four hundred metres away and nothing ever happens on it.

Timing it

Worth watching when.

WhenWhat you get
02:00–05:00 The busiest hours. Ewes lamb at night and there is no arguing with them about it.
07:30 The morning round. Numbers sprayed on, pens mucked out, the overnight arrivals counted.
Mid-afternoon Quiet, warm, and largely a heap of sleeping lambs under a lamp.
Out of season A stamped still of an empty shed and a line telling you when it comes back.

The rules

The four things every camera here promises.

Fixed

No pan, tilt or zoom for anybody outside the farm office.

Silent

No audio on this camera or any other.

Pointed at us

No footpath, no neighbour’s land, no public highway in frame.

Fallback

Out of season the page shows a stamped still and the date the camera comes back on.

What is worth watching this month.

A table of the whole year, camera by camera, so you are not opening ten tabs to find the one with something in it.
