The Gate.

The entrance off the road, the first thirty metres of the track and about half the car park. It exists so you can see the queue before you spend an hour driving to it.

The only camera with a practical use

What it is actually pointed at.

The car park is the size the car park is, and the number of people who may be on this site at once is set by a planning condition rather than by us. On a bank holiday the queue reaches the road by half past nine and stays there.

This camera is the one genuinely useful thing on the whole of Gawping. Look at it before you leave. If the verge is full, it will still be full when you arrive, and you will have driven a long way to look at a hedge you could have watched from home.

No number plates are legible at this distance and the framing stops short of the public road. That is deliberate and it is covered in the rules.

Timing it

Worth watching when.

WhenWhat you get
08:30–10:00, weekends The queue forming. If it is at the road, it will be there all day.
Weekday mornings Deliveries, and about four cars.
Bank holidays Do not come. Watch instead. That is the entire message of this page.
After closing An empty car park, a closed gate, and a security light.
Seasoning

Across the year, on this camera.

January to March

Quiet.

The best time to visit, and nobody does.

April to June

Busy at weekends, manageable midweek.

July to August

Full, most days, from opening.

September to December

Busy to the end of October, then quiet again.

Uptime is the rolling ninety-day figure. When the stream is not available this page shows the last good frame instead: A stamped still every five minutes, which for a queue is nearly as useful as the live feed.

The rules

The four things every camera here promises.

Fixed

No pan, tilt or zoom for anybody outside the farm office.

Silent

No audio on this camera or any other.

Pointed at us

No footpath, no neighbour’s land, no public highway in frame.

Fallback

A stamped still every five minutes, which for a queue is nearly as useful as the live feed.

What is worth watching this month.

A table of the whole year, camera by camera, so you are not opening ten tabs to find the one with something in it.

Snooping, briefly.

We use a small number of cookies to keep your basket upright and to work out which pages people actually read. We do not sell anything about you to anyone, because that would be a rotten way to behave.
